Now, after a 17 year layoff, Vancouver Island has a major junior team again.
The Royals are the relocated version of the Chilliwack Bruins. Two minority owners wanted to buy the team in keep it in Chilliwack but the remaining Bruins partners outvoted them and decided to sell the franchise.
The new ownership group announced on April 20, 2011 that the sale was approved and the team would move to Victoria.
The Royals will begin play this fall. Who will emerge as the star of this team? Could it be Czech forward Lukas Kralik, whom they selected this past June at the CHL Import Draft?
The team will be looking for a new go-to scorer now that Ryan Howse, who dominated for Chilliwack, is done his eligibility.
Three cheers to Victoria for getting junior hockey back!
