So long Davide
In a very surprising move, that caught Whitecaps observers quite unaware on Wednesday, it was announced that creative Swiss midfielder Davide Chiumiento has been sold to top Swiss outfit FC Zurich.
No terms or transfer fee amount were included in the press release.
The diminutive player had some very kind words for the Whitecaps community on his departure, “I have really enjoyed my time in Vancouver and I would like to thank the fans, the club, and my teammates for all of their support.”
“It’s been two great years but now I look forward to the next chapter of my career, which will fortunately bring me closer to my family.”
The transfer will leave a considerable hole in the Vancouver lineup.

The transfer will leave a considerable hole in the Vancouver lineup.
Chiumiento was the team leader in assists with five out of the 19 goals scored before the Toronto FC game for a rate of 26%.
The absence of the Swiss talent will now mean more responsibility for resourceful play will fall on new acquisition Barry Robson and/ or Camilo (who has been mostly inconsistent this season).
It seems likely that the transfer is family centred, rather than any rift between Chiumiento and the Whitecaps staff, but the timing itself will most probably hurt the Vancouver team as they head towards the coveted playoff realm.
The team is already somewhat in flux with the ongoing integration of Barry Robson, and this will put further pressure on the midfield to pull together.
Despite the issues for the team to come, it is imperative now to take the opportunity to thank Davide Chiumiento for his contributions in the past two years.
He brought excitement and a flair for the game in his short stay, and will be missed.
