Whitecaps 4-0 Chivas USA
The Vancouver Whitecaps finally got back to their winning ways on Wednesday night, winning a huge game 4-0. The win puts the Whitecaps up 5 points over FC Dallas, with two games remaining. FC Dallas has 3 games remaining, including a Sunday game against the same Chivas team.
Camilo has gone from Camilo O Magico to Camilo O No this year. But tonight, Camilo played like he did most of last year. Selfless, brilliant, flashy and with a scoring touch. He got back on the score sheet after missing a huge opportunity in the last play of Saturday’s draw with the Sounders.
Jamaican the Defenders Crazy
Yeah I said it. Corny or not corny, a terrific match for the soon to be gone Dane Richards! He came on in the 18th minute as a substitute for injured Kenny Miller (more on that later) and didn’t miss a beat. He scored 18 minutes after coming onto the pitch and assisted on Camilo’s goal in the second half. Such a shame he is leaving at season’s end, he and Omar Salgado could have been the wingers in the ‘Caps attack for the next 10 years.
Let ’em Run Around!
I believe the Province’s Mark Weber said it best:
And that they did! Camilo came off for Vancouver’s own Caleb Clarke in the 84th minute and designated player Barry Robson came off for SuperDraft selection Michael Nanchoff in the 89th. Not enough time to make an impact per say, but valuable time during a MLS match in crunch time.
I love when coming up with things to hate about a match is so difficult. I mean I truly, truly love it. If it was a struggle 35 games out of 35, I would sleep easy at night. With that in mind…
Don’t You Guys Stretch?
Another freakin’ hamstring! After super rookie Darren Mattocks and veteran utility player John Thorrington both came off in the first half of Saturday’s match with hamstring injuries, Kenny Miller decided to follow suit, leaving this match after 18 minutes. Hopefully it’s not too serious, and the 17-day break prior to the home finale against the Portland Timbers is enough time to get everyone healthy.
Don’t You Guys Practice These?
Yup, four goals scored tonight for Vancouver and I’m going to hate on the Whitecaps set pieces.
Five corners tonight, one of which was passed short into play and produced literally nothing. The only corner that produced any sort of danger actually should’ve been a Jay DeMerit header goal if not for a terrific stop by Chivas USA’s Dan Kennedy. Oh and Barry Robson’s try from the actual corner that was tipped over the bar. He smiled afterwards. Historic times at BC Place this evening, folks!
The Whitecaps are back at BC Place for the last time this year on October 21st!

Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie comments after 4-0 victory over Chivas USA.
“Camilo was involved in every goal. The group is really coming together. Clean sheets in our last 2 games. Our crowd got good value for their money tonight.”
