UW lost for the 3rd straight time this last Saturday and what made matters worse is that they lost to an Oregon State squad that only had 2 wins coming into the game.
The Washington Huskies have not won since they became bowl eligible and if they lose the Apple Cup game against WSU they will finish the season at .500 for the 2nd straight year.
The key in winning the 2011 Apple Cup game will be getting it done with the passing offense and limiting turnovers, which they did not do in the loss to Oregon State. Nick Montana was ineffective in the loss to OSU in his first start under center and Keith Price will likely get the start.
RB Chris Polk played well in the loss to OSU rushing for 109 yards averaging a legit 4.4 yards per carry, but since the Huskies had to play catch up in the game they had to air it out in the 2nd half.
The Huskies could not contain Oregon State QB Sean Mannion, who passed for 339 yards with 2 TD and 1 INT in the win over Washington.
The Huskies also must play better defense when it counts, as in the 4th quarter in the loss to Oregon State they gave up 3 TD. Montana fumbled the ball deep in the UW territory and OSU scored to go up by 17, which, pretty much, iced the game. UW Huskies Football Stats
UW faces WSU in the big Apple Cup game, but at least the Huskies are at home. This game will be played in Seattle at CenturyLink Field. The Huskies needed a late TD pass from Jake Locker to beat the Cougars last season.
UW has a better rushing offense than WSU, by far, but the Cougars have the advantage in the passing attack. Or do they? After getting good play from freshman QB Connor Halliday he is out for this big game and senior Marshall Lobbestael will be making the last start of his WSU career.
Neither team features a good defense so this game may be a shootout. However, for WSU to win they will have to contain Polk and not allow him to control the clock by rushing for a ton of yards.
If you look back to the OSU game there is not much to recognize. A couple of things do stand out, as Polk had his 8th game of over 100 rushing yards and while the UW defense did struggle they did force 3 turnovers. That’s about it, as you cannot recognize much if you lose to a team that came into the game with only 2 wins.

UW is out of the Pac 12 title picture, but they may be able to improve their bowl positioning with a win over WSU Saturday. Even with the losing streak the Huskies will be going bowling for the 2nd straight season.

From WSU: Purple and gold? Really? I couldn’t think of two worse colors to pair together in the history of pairing colors. (Yes that’s all they really could say) Read more here.
Elephant In The Room
TO make matters worse for UW an Elephant at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle is picking WSU to win this year. Did you hear this one?
Last year Chai correctly predicted a Washington victory.
