Washington QB Nick Montana To Transfer to Junior College

So long Nick

The worst kept secret all season has finally come to fruition. Washington Huskies QB Nick Montana, the son of the Hall of Fame Joe Montana of course is leaving Montlake for greener pastures and a starting job.

With current STUD QB Keith Price fresh off a successful season (in my opinion) and having two years of eligibility remaining, made Nick Montana have to stare at the prospect of being a backup for all but his senior season.

The Seattle Times reports Montana, who just finished his redshirt freshman season at UW, will transfer to a junior college — reportedly either Blinn (Brenham, Texas) or El Camino (Calif.)

“I’ve got three years (of eligibility left) and I want to spend those on the field,” he said Monday. “I don’t want to wait another year. You only get one shot at playing college football. I just made the best decision for me and I’m going with it.”

From Oaks Christian High School in Thousand Oaks, California he is a four-star recruit.

Most have regarded him as one of the highlight pieces in Steve Sarkisian’s first full recruiting class at Washington in 2010.

“Obviously, he’s a great quarterback,” Montana said of Price.

“I just want to go somewhere I can play and get on the field.”

Montana said he didn’t begin thinking of transferring until after the Alamo Bowl and made the decision in the last few days.

The offense is looking a touch weaker already. Chris Polk has declared for the NFL draft. Doug Nussmeier is leaving to go to Alabama. (We’ll have an article up on that later this week, and now Nick is bolting.

It’s been a rough week for UW hasn’t it?

The pressure is clearly on Keith Price now to make some more progress at the QB position in Seattle.
