The Washington Huskies are 4-1 this season due to the surprising play of sophomore quarterback Keith Price. For some fans they figured the Huskies would take a step backwards from their 7-6 season last year because they lost Jake Locker who was picked 8th overall to the Tennessee Titans.
In case of the “Ewing Theory” the Huskies have managed to be better off this season without Jake Locker. I will go as far as saying Keith Price are making fans forget all about Jake Locker.
Now I’ll clarify that I’m a Jake Locker fan. I also think Jake Locker will be a much better NFL prospect but for the UW Huskies Keith Price has already shown he is a much better passer than Locker. In Locker’s career with the Huskies he is the all-time passing touchdowns leader with 53 touchdowns to 35 interceptions.
He is also the all-time rushing touchdown leader for a quarterback and third all-time for anyone with 29 touchdowns. Locker is also second all-time in passing yards with 7,639 yards but completed just 53.7% of his passes. Locker also ran for 1,783 yards in his career.
He accounted for 82 touchdowns in 40 career games as a Husky and played on some horrible teams.
What Locker did for this program was incredible he turned the program around. He also held the program back some last year. Last year it was all about getting Locker to the NFL and you had some losses where Chris Polk ran for over five yards a carry but only received 12-16 carries.
This year the Huskies have balance not to mention a bunch more accurate quarterback.
For the season Price is completing 68.3% of his passes for 1,209 yards(8.5 YPA) with 17 touchdowns to four interceptions on the season. Price unlike Locker won’t beat you with his leg. I’m also aware Price has a better surrounding cast mainly helped by Austin Seferian-Jenkins the talented tight end who will be playing on Sundays.
The way Price has been playing has been better than what Locker ever did at Washington though.
Price has the offense clicking as they are averaging 34.0 points per game and have yet to score under 30 points. While the offense scored under 30 points in eight of Locker’s 12 starts last season. Price who many felt was going to have the program go through a transition has actually enhanced the program.
If I had to have a key third down convertion I’d much rather have Price as my quarterback than Locker.
In conclusion, this isn’t meant as a slight towards Locker. This is more to show just how well Price has exceeded all expectations set for him. The school record for touchdown passes in a season is 28 which Price already has 17(which Locker had all of last season, career high is 21 as well).
Price has this offense going in the right direction and is only a sophomore. Just imagine the damage him and Sarkisian will do on this conference by the time he is a senior.
Fans thought the Huskies would go backwards after Locker instead Price has fans saying Jake who?
