UW Huskies Football: Has Keith Price hurt Chris Polk’s draft stock?

Huskies Going Pro?

Virtually all the buzz around the Washington Huskies’ football program has centered on Keith Price.

The new starting quarterback has played so well that people are forgetting about Jake Locker in a hurry.

Price’s success is a far cry from what was expected of him in Husky Nation entering the season.

Most of us thought this would be running back Chris Polk’s offense. That includes NFL scouts, who liked the 5’11”, 222-pounders low center of gravity and solid power.

Offseason knee surgery? So what...Polk’s numbers haven’t declined

Whether you agree or not, I even heard whispers that Polk could be a first-rounder as recently as the summer. But I doubt anyone believes that today. Polk is being talked up as middle-round pick. Is it his fault? Price’s? And is there time to recover?

Though people were worried about him after offseason knee surgery, Polk’s numbers haven’t in fact declined.

He’s averaging 122 rushing yards per game; he’s hit the century mark in four of five starts; he averages 5.3 yards per carry compared to 5.4 last year; and he’s on pace to shatter his personal bests for catches and receiving yards.

Ultimately, Polk isn’t playing any worse. The only reason he seems to be toiling in obscurity is that Price has played so well. The Huskies’ passing game is getting most of the attention.

There’s still hope for Polk’s 2012 (or 2013) NFL draft status.

If Washington keeps winning games and cracks the national top 25, many more eyes will watch their games and Chris Polk will get the notice he deserves.

Sources? Most scouts have talked about him as being a 2-3 round pick and still are.

ESPN has him as the 2nd best running back in the country.

Ted Miller just said he’s in the running for Pac12 offensive player of the year

Touchdowns will come. He is currently 10th in the country in rushing yards. His stock is fine.

Draft scouts dont’ give a crap about stats. His reception against Cal helped his stock showing he can do everything. He was great against Utah as well.

Besides who cares? I’m tired of NFL talk just enjoy him as a Husky. Sark owes the UW wins not any player.

Keith Price can only help his draft stock, not hurt it.  If Price wasn’t able to get this offense moving through the air opposing defenses would be able to load up the box just to stop Chris Polk.  With all of the weapons in the passing game, especially with Austin Sefarian-Jenkins monopolizing the attention of the linebackers, Polk is going to gain a ton of yards on draw plays alone.  By the end of the season I wouldn’t be shocked to see Polk have 1600+ yards and 15 touchdowns.

I agree 100%. Hope he stays healthy enough to put up those #’s in 2011.

I doubt Polk has 15 touchdowns since he only has three through five games. I do think Polk is doing a fantastic job though. We are going to miss him for sure.
