Big Dawg has more to prove
I know the answer!
Here are my five reasons why I think he will return for his sophomore season and beyond.
1: Hometown pride
With Tony Wroten being a native to Washington, and with no prospect as of yet for him to go pro in Seattle, I think Wroten will stay on at the University of Washington.
The allure of the big pay day is one that many college ball players will have to deal with this season, Wroten not excluded. Not only does every kid dream of turning pro one day, but they also dream of being the star at their local university as well, and Wroten has definitely became the star on this Huskies squad.
For that reason, I think he will do the honorable thing, and return for another year.
2: Shot to be NCAA champions
Tony Wroten, and the rest of the Huskies, will want to go as far as they can in the NCAA tournament this season. Right now, the Huskies are looking like the team to beat in the conference, and hope to win the Pac-12 tournament to receive the automatic bid.
I truly believe that the Huskies showing in this years tournament will speak volumes about what Wroten will do after this season.
3: Star power
Wroten has the buzz about him already to be the Pac-12 freshman of the year for this season. Maybe that kind of accolade will go straight to his head, but I think that he will stay on to build his game, and up his star power for his NBA career.
The point guard position demands a sense of leadership, and with that leadership comes a big ego. Wroten has the ego to be a pro player for sure, but his game is not NBA worthy at the moment.
I think he realizes that, and will return to further the development of his game.
4: To be like Roy
With the last Huskies big star player, Brandon Roy, sticking around for all four years, I think that Wroten knows what kind of determination that brought to the university, and will want to emulate that.
This isn’t just a one year mandatory stepping stone for Wroten I don’t think. He’s in it to win it with the Huskies, and with his teammates.
5: Because he said so himself
Wroten Tweeted February 4th: “My soph and junior year will only get meaner.” That sounds a whole lot like an admission that he will be returning for at least two more seasons.
Just think how good he will be at the end of his junior year. He is becoming an all around style player as it is, the upswing of this kid is pretty remarkable.
