Washington
After a bad loss at Colorado the Washington Huskies had a small run of victories before splitting last weekend. It would have been a nice victory for their resume to beat Cal at home because they are one of their primary threats to capturing a league title; after the loss rallying to beat Stanford was a must and they looked strong in that game.
They are on the road this week against both Arizona schools but there probably hasn’t been a better time in the last decade to take this trip as both are below their usual level.
At 5-2 they are tied for the fewest losses in the conference at the moment.
Against Stanford it was nice to see freshman guard Tony Wroten lead the way with 21 points. He struggled against Cal but as he has all season long showed good mental toughness in bouncing back. Abdul Gaddy is still struggling but played his best ball of the conference season last weekend.
If he can show even a glimmer of his 5 star ability this team could really take off. Same goes for Terrence Ross, but he has certainly been more productive even though he looks lost out there sometimes.
This weekend is a perfect time to get him right.

Arizona State
It is definitely a down year in the Valley of the Sun. Arizona State doesn’t always compete for the conference title but they usually defend their homecourt well and build a resume that has them in the conversation for the Big Dance.
This year they are doing neither, following up a weak showing in the non-conference, including losses to Northern Arizona and Fairfield, with several PAC 12 losses including a drubbing at Utah in their last game.
Home and away their play has been pretty ugly.
The one good thing Arizona State has going for it is the play of junior guard Trent Lockett. I don’t know for sure but he just might be the only player in the country to be leading his team in points, assists, rebound and steals.
The problem is he severely sprained his ankle last week against Oregon State. He is questionable for Thursday’s game and without him they have scored just 54 and an ugly 43 points over their last two games.
This team just doesn’t have enough firepower to compete with the Huskies.
