South Dakota State
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are putting the rest of the Summit Conference on notice that they are ready to challenge Oakland’s league dominance.
They have already racked up 9 wins and even though it might not be against the highest of competition at least they are showing they know how to win ball games.
Washington will be a good measuring stick as they are far and away best team they will play or have played all season.
In guard Nate Wolters South Dakota State has one of the better players that nobody talks about. The junior averaged 19 points per game last year and is already a tick above that so far.
He runs the team and against an aggressive team like Washington they will need him to score and make sure they can get the rest of their offense going.
Not an easy task against a team full of great athletes. It would help if the Jackrabbits were a good 3 point shooting team but they are just average in in that area – 119th in the country at 35.7%
Their record may be disappointing so far but I still really like this Washington squad.
They are loaded on the perimeter and have enough size to bang with teams that want to work the ball inside. Like any up tempo perimeter team they need good shooting so they can set their pressure defense.
Also, when you look closer three of their four losses were to teams that were ranked at the time and away from home. At home like they are on Sunday they are a perfect 5-0.
He may not have gotten as much pub as some of the frosh on the East Coast but there are few playing better than Tony Wroten right now.
In just 25 minutes per game he is averaging 15 points and 5 boards. He can slash to the goal, shoot it, and even run point if they want him too.
The combination of him and Terrence Ross give the Huskies a lethal perimeter duo…I know it is a stretch but it is kind of like having a couple of Scottie Pippens. These guys stuff the stat sheet.
