Let’s take a look at my Top 5 Huskies Hoops Players of All Time!

#1 – Brandon Roy -2002-2006

Roy was one of the best players in the college game in the 2005-2006 season averaging 20.2 ppg, was named Pac 10 Player of the Year, and led the Huskies to the Sweet 16 for the 2nd straight season.

In his senior season Roy was also a finalist for the Wooden, Naismith, Oscar Robertson, and Adolph Rupp awards.

He was drafted with the 6th pick in the first round of the 2006 NBA draft by Minnesota and immediately traded to Portland.

His number (#3) was retired by UW in 2009. Roy was on his way to superstardom in the NBA, but knee injuries have derailed his career in the last couple of years,

#2 – Detlef Schrempf 1981-1985

Detlef Schrempf was a 6’9″ German that came to UW and in his senior season averaged 15.8 ppg on 55% shooting, was named to the All Pac 10 team and was a 2nd team All American. Schrempf was not the most pretty player, but he could do it all in score, rebound, shoot the 3, and defend.

He was the 8th pick in the 1985 draft and was a 3-time All Star in his long pro career.

#3 – Christian Welp 1983-1987

Welp was a 7-footer for the Huskies and when he finished his career he was the all time UW leading scorer. He averaged in double digits in all 4 years at Washington and as a senior averaged 20.8 ppg. He helped UW win Pac 10 titles in 1984 and 1985 and was Pac 10 Freshman of the Year in 1984 and when he was a junior he was the conferences player of the year.

Welp was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 2001.

#4 Bob Houbregs 1951-1953

Going way back here, but cannot have this list without Houbregs, who led the Huskies to their best finish ever, which was 3rd place in 1953.

In his senior season he put up sick stats averaging 25.6 ppg and 11.5 rpg and was an All American in that season. Still has the UW record for most points in a game (49) and was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 1979.

#5 Todd MacCullough 1999-2002

Another 7 footer trolling the floor for the Huskies MacCullough finished his college career ranking 3rd in all time scoring, 4th in al time rebounding, and all time leader in blocked shots.

He led the Huskies to the Sweet 16 in 1998 and became only the 2nd player in NCAA history to lead the nation in shooting for 3 consecutive seasons.
