2012 Washington Huskies BCS Odds

College Football Futures | University of Washington

UW head coach Steve Sarkisian has laid a solid foundation for the Huskies bringing a team back from the brink, but how will they do this season now that star QB Jake Locker is now in the NFL?

Well, that remains to be seen, but the Huskies are coming off their first winning season since 2002 and they shocked powerhouse Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl and this season oddsmakers have UW at +20000 to win the BCS title.

One major key this season for the Huskies is how QB Keith Price takes over under center for Locker. He has talent and a gun, but lacks experience. At least he will not have to it all since the Huskies return the star players of RB Chris Polk and WR Jermaine Kearse.

Also, the Huskies have high hopes for Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who was the nation’s most coveted prep tight end. There is youth and talent on both sides of the ball, as Sarkisian has turned things around by finally winning local recruiting battles keeping great Washington players in state.

One key for the Huskies on offense is improving upon their 32% of their 3rd down conversion rate, which ranked 112th in the nation in 2010.

On defense the Huskies must build upon late last season when they only gave up an average of 14 points in their last 3 games.

Look for the Huskies to have a blitz happy defense, as they are pretty stacked up front, but their secondary is weak and a major concern.

The pre-Pac 12 games are not easy facing pass happy Hawaii in their 2nd game and then a rematch with 10th ranked Nebraska on the road in their 3rd game.

They hit the road to face preseason 7th ranked Stanford and 25th ranked USC and they host #3 Oregon at home, who they have not beaten since 2003.

The Huskies have talent and need to build upon last season’s success, but the BCS title, much less the Pac 12 title, is a major ling shot.
