WSU – Week 2 College Football
WSU has won their first 2 games of the season for the first time since 2005 and they have already matched their win total from last season.
Still, even though the Cougars rank 1st in the nation in scoring they have played Idaho State and UNLV in their first 2 games and needless to say neither of those teams are far from a football powerhouse.
Next week the Cougars face a San Diego State squad that is 2-0 and won the Poinsettia Bowl last season. It is hard to see what to expect from WSU in this game, as they have not been tested yet and last week faced a UNLV defense that ranks 2nd to last in the nation.
However, what Cougars’ fans have for the first time, which they have not had in what seems forever, is some confidence.
WSU QB Marshall Lobbestael was stellar last week against UNLV passing for 361 yards with 5 TD and 0 INT and the Cougars also rushed for 139 yards. Lead back Rickey Galvin is a freshman and gives WSU a legit RB and they have not had that in some time.
Look for him to get a lot of carries against a SDSU team that gave up over 400 rushing yards last week. The offense and defense has not been tested yet this season facing 2 pretty weak teams, but they will face a legit SDSU squad in sunny San Diego.
I think the defense will be key in the SDSU match up, especially the run defense facing Aztecs RB Ronnie Hillman, who has rushed for over 115 yards in both games this season and is averaging almost 7 yards per carry.
WSU may not be a BCS contender, but if they can beat SDSU on the road they may show they will be a force to deal with in the new Pac 12 this season.
