Utah Utes (6-4) at WSU Cougars (4-6)
The Cougars snapped their 5-game losing streak with a great win over a solid Arizona State team last week and now face a hot Utah team that has won 3 games in a row.
No matter how you look at it the Cougars have had a decent season, as they have already doubled their win total from last season.
However, to have any chance at a bowl game they must beat Utah this Saturday and then Washington on the road in the Apple Cup Game.
Sure, Utah has won 3 straight, but none of those wins came against teams that are above .500. Still, their defense has played solid only giving up an average of 11 ppg in their 3 game winning streak.
The Cougars may have found their QB of the future, as in the 37-27 win over ASU last Saturday freshman QB Connor Halliday passed for nearly 500 yards.
Halliday blew up last week in his first real playing time of the season and the WR duo of Marquess Wilson and Isiah Barton each had at least 155 receiving yards and each averaged over 22 yards per reception.
Halliday will likely have to carry the offense facing Utah and their 76th ranked pass defense, as the WSU rushing offense only ranks 103rd in the nation and will be going up against a great Utah run defense that ranks 9th in the nation.
One big key in this game is the play of the WSU offensive line, as Utah has a legit pass rush with 28 sacks this season and if they can get to Halliday it will be a long afternoon in Pullman for the freshman play caller.
Utes vs. Cougars Free Prediction
If you look at the stats the Utes do not have a great offense, but in their last 3 games they have averaged more than 30 ppg. The main reason for the offensive improvement has been the play of Utah RB John White IV, who has rushed for over 100 yards in 4 of his last 5 games including 167 in last week’s win over UCLA.
WSU has the nation’s 63rd ranked rushing defense and if they cannot keep White in check they will be in trouble.
The Utes have been running the ball recently, but they may want to air it out in this game since the Cougars pass defense ranks 94th in the nation.
Utah is playing well and is a better team, especially on D, which is why I think they will easily win this game.
