USC Trojans vs. Washington St. Cougars Preview | Handicapping | Spread

USC Trojans (6-16) vs Washington State Cougars (11-10)

The USC Trojans have fallen a little further than I think anyone expected this year. It is very simple, this team really struggles to score (and they can’t stay healthy).

Thursday February 2
Beasley Coliseum – Pullman, WA
Moneyline: No money line currently listed.
Spread: Washington State -7.5
O/U: 119.5

They average a startling 54 points per game which puts a lot of pressure on their defense, which should be noted is very good.

In addition to struggling to put the ball in the basket this team just doesn’t have a lot of depth and they are dealing with load of injuries.

Only 5 players on the roster have played in every game this season.

Leading those 5 is diminutive guard Maurice Jones. The leading scorer for the Trojans stands just 5’7” and averages an amazing 38 minutes per game. Although his size can sometimes be a detriment on defense he can also be a great pest, stealing the ball directly almost twice a game and harassing opposing guards into turnovers.

Coach Kevin O’Neill has to be hoping that forward Dwayne Dedmon will be available.

He can be a demon on the defensive end with with length and wingspan and has an emerging offensive game. P.S. USC games are not pretty.

Washington State

Washington State may have had the worst week in the conference last week. Not only did they lose both games to the Arizona schools on the road but they lost guard Faisal Aden for the rest of the season due to injury.

He is the team’s second leading scorer and had just found his game with two 20+ scoring efforts the weekend before. With him out and the Trojans coming to town points might be few and far between on Thursday night.

Even without Aden the Cougars are still likely to prevail though. Forward Brock Motum has been delivering all season long and if Dedmon can’t go for USC he might find it pretty easy to score in close.

If he can cancel out Jones in terms of points than the rest of the team should be able to win the game.

Guards Davonte Lacey, Reggie Moore and Marcus Capers should all see some more shots coming their way and could easily become double digit threats in Aden’s absence.

Especially Capers who is hitting 56% of his field goals on the season.

Spread Pick: USC +7.5
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Washington State 55 – USC 49
