Trail Blazers vs. Thunder Preview | Handicapping | Betting Odds Jan. 3

Portland (3-1) vs OKC (5-1)

The Blazers suffered their first loss of the season in their last game and now take on a Thunder team that only has 1 loss on the season and has yet to lose at home. Even though it is early this is an important Northwest Division game for both teams. .

*NBA ATS Matchup Report*

The Blazers are hoping that the Thunder offense, which ranks 7th in the league in scoring, struggled like they did in their Monday loss to Dallas when they only scored 87 points and shot 40.3% from the field.

The Blazers also really struggled in their last game only scoring 88 points in a loss to the Clippers and it is also vital that they hold onto the rock, as in the L.A. game they committed 22 turnovers. Portland has 46 turnovers in their last 2 games and that simply aint gonna cut it, especially tonight against a solid Thunder squad.

The Thunder have won their last 2 games at home facing the Blazers, but the last time these 2 division rivals met Portland came out on top.

It is no secret what the Blazers must do on defense, as they have to keep Kevin Durant (27.3 ppg), Russell Westbrook (16.3 ppg), and James Harden (16 ppg) from shooting lights out and having big games.

Yeah, easier said than done, but if they can play good D against these 3 they have a great shot to win since after this trio the next leading scorer is only going for 7.6 ppg.

Portland Trailblazers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Preview & Betting Lines

It is simple for the Blazers, as they must shoot the pill better than they did in the Clippers’ game.

No Portland starter, as well as super 6th man Jamal Crawford, shot over 50% from the field. Gerald Wallace (14.8 ppg) was 0-5 from the field and was held scoreless in that game.

LeMarcus Aldridge and Wesley Mathews also need to step it up in this game.

There is a good chance for the Blazers to shoot better tonight, as the Thunder are not known for their D and overall they rank 21st in the league in opponents points per game.

Handicapping Trends

  • The Blazers have yet to lose at home, but they also have yet to win on the road (0-1).
  • This season the Blazers are 2-1-1 ATS with an O/U record of 2-2 and the Thunder are 2-3 ATS with an O/U record of 3-2.
  • In some betting trends for this Northwest Division match up the Blazers are -5 ATS in their last 5 road games, 2-7-2 ATS in their last 11 games, and they have an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 road games.
  • The Thunder are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite, and they have an Over record of 4-1 in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss.

Blazers vs Thunder Free Prediction

The Blazers have covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games facing the Thunder in Oklahoma City, but I think that trend will not continue tonight.

The high scoring Thunder will not struggle with their shot at home and I am not sure the same can be said about the Blazers.

Take the Thunder giving 5.5 points.
