Portland Trailblazers Basketball History Top 5 Players

Moments In Time – Portland Trailblazers

How can “Clyde the Glide” not be on the top of this list?

Clyde Drexler

He played for the Blazers for 12 seasons and averaged 20.9 ppg 7 rpg and 5.8 assists per game in that time.

He was an All Star 8 times and was All NBA First Team once. Drexler was always one of the most exciting players to watch and led Portland to the NBA Finals 2 times.

He is now in the NBA Hall of Fame and is one of the best players ever and THE best for Portland.

Portland Trailblazers Basketball History Top 5 Players

Bill Walton

OK, so Walton only spent 4 seasons in a Blazers’ uniform, but he was a monster when the team won its only title in 1977. In that season he averaged 18.6 ppg, 14.4 rpg, and over 3 blocks per game. In that season he also became the first and only MVP that a Blazers’ player has ever won.

Walton may have been one of the best centers ever if injuries did not curtail his career.

Terry Porter

Porter is on the list not because he put up great numbers, but he was the PG on the Blazers for 10 seasons and was the floor leader when Portland made the NBA finals twice in the early 90’s. In his career with the Blazers he averaged 14.6 ppg and 6.8 assists per game and finished as the all time team leader in assists.

He was also a great player on D with over 100 steals in 7 of his 10 seasons in Portland.

Buck Williams

The Blazers made the finals twice in the early 90’s and it is no surprise that they got there after Williams came to Portland from New Jersey.

He was a tough player that could hit the boards and finished his career in the top 15 all time in rebounds. Williams was also a guy who could put the ball in the bucket scoring in double figures in his first 3 seasons in a Blazers’ uniform. If opposing players wanted to get in the paint they had to deal with Williams, who usually won those battles.

Maurice Lucas

Lucas may have been the one guy who was tougher than Buck Williams, but that is up for debate. He spent his first 3 seasons with the Blazers and his last one with them.

In his rookie season he averaged 20.2 ppg and 11.4 rpg for the Blazers’ team that won the NBA title.

Lucas only played for the Blazers for 4 1/2 seasons, but made 3 All Star teams and was a major force on both ends of the court.
