Hornets vs. Trail Blazers betting odds & handicapping preview March 29th

NBA Matchup Insight

Time is running out for the Trailblazers to make a playoff run, as they are 3.5 games back of the last playoff spot. They have a good chance to start that run facing a Hornets’ team that is 24 games under .500, but they cannot take them for granted since they are coming off a road win.

*NBA ATS Matchup Report*

The Blazers have lost 11 of their last 16 games and in that span they have given up an average of 102.3 ppg. Tonight they look to sweep the season series against the Hornets for the first time in 8 seasons.

Portland PG Raymond Felton (10.9 ppg), who is averaging 16 ppg in his last 6 games, may return for tonight’s game and the Blazers need all the help they can get.

The Blazers recently picked up big man J.J. Hickson off waivers and he had a solid game going for 21 points in the Blazers last game in the loss to the Thunder. Portland will need his offense and rebounding, especially since Marcus Camby is now with the Rockets.

The Hornets were shorthanded in their last win over Golden State, but Carl Landry, Jarrett Jack, and Marco Belinelli, who all went for at least 20 points. These guys will need to step up again since C Chris Kaman and Trevor Ariza are both questionable for tonight’s game.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 20 points in the loss to the Thunder, but he only took 2 free throws. He needs to not settle for jumpers and attack the rim more to get some easy buckets and easy points from the charity stripe.

Portland 6th man Jamal Crawford is 2/17 from the field in his last 2 games and the Blazers will need him to get back on track and to start scoring if they are going to make the post-season.

While the Hornets are obviously weaker than the Thunder the Blazers must play better than they did against OKC where they allowed the Thunder to shoot 57% from the field and were out-rebounded by 13 boards.

Hornets vs. Blazers Handicapping Preview

This season the Hornets are 24-26 ATS with an O/U record of 24-25-1 and the Blazers are 23-26-1 ATS with an O/U record of 25-25.

In some betting trends for this Western Conference match up the Hornets are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, and they have an Over record of 6-2 in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

The Blazers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games, 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games overall, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 home games.

Pick: The Blazers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against the Hornets, but I think that trend will not continue tonight.

While I think the Blazers will win the Hornets have nothing to lose and they will play well and cover the 8.5-point spread.
