LaMarcus Aldridge – Savior for the TrailBlazers. Possible 2012 NBA all star!

Book It!  Feb. 26 in Orlando

Where the hell would the Portland Trail Blazers be without LaMarcus Aldridge? I would say looking forward to the next draft lottery.

He has been Portland’s best player since Brandon Roy’s knees gave up on him and he is having another fantastic season.

As of February 5th he has the Blazers in the thick of the playoff race and he leads the team in scoring (23.1 ppg).

He is right behind Marcus Camby in leading the team in rebounding (8.8 rpg).

What may be even more impressive this season is that he not only ranks 7th in the league in scoring, but he also ranks 14th in field goal percentage (51.5%).

The Blazers have been two different teams this season the one at home and the one on the road.

They are a NBA best 11-1 at home, but on the road they are well below .500 at 3-9 as of February 5th.

I don’t think however that you cannot pin that all on Aldridge, as to say he is steady would be like saying Shaq was not a very good free throw shooter.

LaMarcus Aldridge

This season at home Aldridge is averaging 22.4 ppg and 7.8 rpg

Yeah, major understatement.

This season at home he is averaging 22.4 ppg and 7.8 rpg and he actually has better numbers on the road averaging 23.8 ppg and 9.7 rpg.

Also, in wins and losses he has basically the same stats.

Aldridge has failed to score at least 20 points in only 5 games this season and he has come up HUGE in big games.

When facing the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are favored to win the Western Conference this season, at the beginning of the season he went for 30 points in an away win and the next game against the Lakers he went for 28.

Only one of his five biggest scoring games this season came against a team that is not in the playoff picture and that is when he scored 33 points in a win over the weak Toronto Raptors.

The 6’11 power forward has been looked at as one of the better players at his position in the Western Conference, and the league for that matter, for a couple of seasons and it was a shame he did not make the All Star team last season.

This season I would say his chances of making the All Star team are pretty good,  I think there is a legit chance Kevin Love from Minnesota and Aldridge  get the nod.

On Yahoo sports this week Aldridge had this to say.

“If David Stern writes an article saying I’m in, I’ll believe it. Other than that, I won’t believe it until they call my name.”

I’m pretty much positive he’s in!

Aldridge is having another great season and it is too bad not many people outside of Portland really know how good he really is.
