It’s possible that we’ll see no NBA basketball whatsoever in 2011-12 but that doesn’t stop Vegas from posting odds to win the hypothetical NBA Championship. But we’re only concerned with Portland right northwest sports fans?
The Portland Trail Blazers’ 30 to 1 NBA title odds tie them with the New York Knicks for 10th-best, behind the Heat, Lakers, Bulls, Thunder, Celtics, Mavericks, Spurs, Magic and Nuggets.
Considering the options available in 2012 free agency, it’s enough to wonder if the Portland Trail Blazers odds would be better served if there was no season and they opened their wallets next summer.
Then again, we have no idea how a lockout may affect free-agent rules.
Still, it’s fun to hypothesize.
Who are some big names Portland’s new GM, whoever that is, could consider?
1. DWIGHT HOWARD:
D12 will obviously be the belle of the 2012 free-agent ball. I actually wonder if the Blazers could be a darkhorse to land him. If they didn’t match any other team’s offer for Greg Oden and let him walk instead, they’d free up money and a starting center slot for Howard.
2. CHRIS PAUL:
If the Blazers choose not to re-sign Felton, they could opt for Paul instead.
A CP3/Brandon Roy backcourt could be the envy of the NBA – assuming Roy gets back on track.
3. KEVIN GARNETT: If the Blazers miss out on Howard AND want to let Oden go AND they’re one high-impact veteran away from contending, they could sign KG for defense and leadership.
