To make things more painful, Chivas entered the match with the worst home record in MLS, but Wednesday’s win saw the Goats (6-7-5) improve to 3-6-2 at The Home Depot Center, pulling clear of the Timbers who sit in last place in the Western Conference at 5-10-4.

It did not take the home side very long to grab the lone goal, as Miller Bolanos recorded his first MLS career-goal in the 16th minute, slotting it home after Portland goalkeeper Troy Perkins parried away a low ball cross along the face of goal by Ryan Smith.

The Goats came close to doubling their advantage down the stretch, as several other chances sailed just wide of the goal.

It was the Timbers third straight league match loss, dropping them to 0-7-2 away from Jeld- Wen Field.

Troy Perkins

Can Perkins help the Timbers steal a win vs. FC Dallas on Saturday?

They will look for that elusive first away victory next time out when they face FC Dallas at FC Dallas Stadium on Saturday.

Dallas, like Portland sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with 19 points each, but Dallas has played two extra games.

The good news for Portland is that Dallas has recorded just one more goal (20) than the Timbers (19) this campaign.

So, who do you think can score a goal on the road?

Here are my odds. (for fun weigh in)

Boyd 3:1
Mwanga 5:1
Jewsbury, Mosquera, Futty or Horst 8:1
Nagbe 10:1
Chara 20:1

Nevertheless, I’ll say it again. Portland must score first if they want to win games.

Why?

The Timbers have only scored one goal in the final 15 minutes of matches.

Yep. Only the Seattle Sounders has scored as few in the same period. A side that Portland beat 2-1, June 24 on two early goals by Kris Boyd and David Horst.

Listen up Timbers Army.

Things could get worse before they get better. This team just hasn’t been able to find any scoring rhythm, and after last week’s blown opportunity to climb out of the basement against one of the league’s worst teams, I think we will all just be looking forward to next season after this one.
