Portland Timbers releasing 2013 kits tonight

New Threads

Soccer season is almost here. And for many fans in the northwest, it has been too long.

One team in particular that would like to see their season fair a little better than their last is the Portland Timbers
. Coming off a season that saw them finish 8-16-10 while vastly under-performing, the Timbers may have what it takes to shake things up in the MLS and make their first appearance in the MLS Playoffs.

While that is still a ways away, the best Timbers fans can do right now is hope…and look at those awesome new uniforms that are to be released tonight.

Yes, Portland fans, the Timbers have new 1st and 2nd kits that look ridiculously awesome. And that is no exaggeration.

Though the official release is scheduled for tonight, the Timbers’ website has already released a video that gives a few glimpses into what these two uniforms will look like in the 2013 season.

Here’s a quick analysis of the kits for those of you who are just as anxious as we are about the coming season.

1st Kit – Same Green, Different Attitude

Portland will not take too big of a risk with their 1st or 2nd kit but they are still no less awesome. Comprised of a base, forest green jersey and white shorts, the uniform looks fantastic.

Minor changes to the shoulders and the stitching along the sides and near the breast area give the uniform a more intimidating and sleek feel.

While the traditional Timbers logo does find its way back onto the kick, small changes in the fabric and placements of key Rose City phrases make this uniform feel a little more intimate than previous kits.

2nd Kit – Red as the Rose City

The second kit for the Timbers is undoubtedly the favorite. Boasting that vibrant red that resonates right off the screen, the uniform is bold, sleek, and intimidating all at the same time.

Like the first kit, the second kit has minor changes that make a big difference. A different pattern of stitching that united the red and white provides a grittier feel to the overall style of the uniform, and phrases of the soccer team and fans adorn the kit in certain areas.

But perhaps the feature that makes this kit the best is the red rose that is graphically placed behind a red Timbers logo. The color white also figures more prominently on this kit, once again being placed down the sides of the body.

Both Kits were worn with white shorts in the video.

An official release is scheduled for tonight.
