Garrison has less than 3 full years of playing time leading to a fair inexperience factor, but he does bring size with a 6’ 2” frame that packs a solid 220 lbs.

NWSB Managing editor “Q” tells us on the first day of 2012 NHL Free Agency the Vancouver Canucks survived and made it thru losing Sami Salo and Aaron Rome to land Jason Garrison via free agency from the Florida Panthers on Sunday. The 6’2”, 220-pound undrafted defenceman from White Rock BC was signed by the Panthers in 2008 after three seasons with the University of Minnesota Duluth of the WCHA.

Colton Gillies has hockey in his blood after his uncle Clark Gillies made the family proud by being voted into the NHL Hall of Fame. Gillies started off on the inept Saskatoon Blades but showed enough promise for the Minnesota Wild to call him in. Since then, he has joined the Columbus Blue Jackets in Ohio.

NWSB insider Dave B brings us another profile featuring an athlete from the Northwest. Chuck Kobasew started his career at Boston College of American Collegiate Hockey. This was only before being named MVP of the Frozen Four Tournament and going on to play in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets. He was eventually chosen by the Calgary Flames 14th overall in the NHL Draft and now calls Denver, Colorado home with the Avalanche of the NHL.
