NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater tells us with all the off season activity in the CFL the most impactful transaction probably happened right here in BC with trade with Edmonton, where the BC Lions lost their valuable backup QB Mike Reilly. Buono and Coach Mike Benevides have been left searching for a high-quality number two option behind CFL All Star Travis Lulay.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater brings us an update after the first day of the CFL Free Agency Period. With 20 moves on the first day, the BC Lions did their part to try and stay as active as they could be. Bringing in DE Julius Williams from Edmonton, and losing LB James Yurichuk to Toronto. GM Wally Buono was busy re-signing two players who were not in the free agent class, Paris Jackson, and Korey Banks. With plenty of time still remaing, Phil thinks that there will still be more singings in Leos camp soon.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater brings us his wish list for Wally Buono in this years free agency signing period. As Phil recalls, defense was excellent this past year, but what needs a big dose of retooling this year is the offense. With a mix of trades, releases, and poor play, the Lions are in need of a new look offense, starting with the line. Phil has his eyes on a couple non-import veterans from the Riders, and Stamps. There are a few WR’s available that Phil likes as well, and he would like to see Buono go out and get another QB either via trade, or free agency.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater updates us today on the Leo’s roster after the Mike Reilly trade today made by Wally Buono. The mastermind GM behind the Lions franchise. Phil says the Leo’s must lock up Shawn Gore. He is the next real deal. A Mr. Everything for the Lions Offense as he is the possession receiver, a threat at every range and can be lined up inside or flexed out wide.
New NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Bryan McFarlane gives us his five biggest reasons why he hates the Geroy Simon trade to the Roughriders. First off, green is clearly not his favorite colour, and Riders green is even worse. Green is the colour of envy, not the colour suitable for Superman. Plus the fact that the Lions got absolutely no value in the trade in return. The leagues best WR of all time gets traded for nothing in return is enough to make anybody’s blood boil.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater reacts today to possibly the biggest CFL trade in the history of the league. Geroy Simon is OUT of Vancouver. Traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Phil wishes to express his gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Simon. Time will tell how this trade will play out in the end but for the circumstances involved Phil believes GM Wally Buono played this masterfully.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Steve Lee points out it that it may not have been the best of years for Lions WR Geroy Simon, but would letting the veteran go be the right choice at this moment in time? Simon still has a lot to offer in the mentoring department, and could show a lot to the young receiving corps that will be the future of the Lions.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil The Bartender Slater weighs in with his Week 18 CFL preview for the BC Lions vs. Calgary Stampeders from BC Place in Vancouver. Its’ funny how early season projections and predictions play out in reality. This game, many suspected, Phil included, was to determine top billing in the West back in June. Two young upstarts, Drew Tate and Travis Lulay looked to guide their respected teams into the promised land.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater brings us his Love Em & Hate Em recap from the Week 17 Edmonton Eskimos vs. BC Lions match up. Chalk up a win for the men in Orange. Phil says It still appears that Safety Cauchy Muamba, although he is getting better, breaks too late to provide additional coverage on deep routes. Defensive Tackle, Brandon Jordan, is quickly becoming the epicenter of destruction.
NWSB insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater weighs in tonight with some CFL gossip. Khalif Mitchell of the Leo’s is in hot water again. His latest venture into American politics, via twitter, landed the gregarious lineman in some hot water after using a racial slur in one of his latest tweets. Mitchell used the term “chink” in commenting on Tuesday night’s U.S. presidential debate.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater brings us his Love Em & Hate Em recap from the Week 16 BC Lions vs. Hamilton Ti-Cats match up. Chalk up a win for the men in Orange. What Phil liked. Every football fan should feel good about Lions SB Courtney Taylor, who notched his first CFL TD to go along with his 93 yards as he filled in for Arland Bruce III. The courage of Travis Lulay was also on display. Kudos!
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater brings us his Love Em & Hate Em recap from the Week 14 Saskatchewan Roughriders vs BC Lions match up. Chalk up a win for the men in Green. What Phil liked. LB Adam Bighill proved he is the best athlete in the CFL because he tracked Sheets all over the field. Receptions by Marco Iannuzzi allowed Lions QB Travis Lulay to continue his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass to 24.
