NWSB Managing editor “Q” tells us on the first day of 2012 NHL Free Agency the Vancouver Canucks survived and made it thru losing Sami Salo and Aaron Rome to land Jason Garrison via free agency from the Florida Panthers on Sunday. The 6’2”, 220-pound undrafted defenceman from White Rock BC was signed by the Panthers in 2008 after three seasons with the University of Minnesota Duluth of the WCHA.

NWSB insider Dave B brings us another profile featuring an athlete from the Northwest. Jason Garrison took the extremely hard road to get the NHL. After shining in the Vancouver Minor Hockey System, he failed to be drafted higher so he played for Nanaimo Clippers of the BC Junior Hockey League. Then onto the University of Minnesota Duluth squad. Garrison played for the Florida Panthers minor league team until he finally got the call.
