NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell tells us to him the best “MY oh MY” play of the week had to be James Paxton’s masterful start against the St. Louis Cardinals. In just his second start ever, Paxton looked like a seasoned vet going against a team that is in the middle of two post season playoff hunts, the NL Central, and the NL Wild Card. Paxton went 6 innings, giving up no runs on two hits with five k’s and two walks.

Clinton Bell profiles one of the Northwests own, Blake Hawksworth of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Born in North Vancouver BC, but raised in Sammamish Washington, Hawksworth is a true northwest athlete. Playing his high school ball at Eastlake High School, and collegiate ball with Bellevue Community College, Hawksworth than went on to get drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Blair Thomas is back with another Northwest Athlete Profile, this time it’s Portland born Darwin Barney of the MLB’s Chicago Cubs. Darwin was counted out by most pundits but was MLB Rookie of the Month in his first month up. Flashback to 2006, Barney was a part of history as Oregon State went on an improbable run and became the first team in College World Series history to lose twice and still win the title.
