The Mariners started the MLB regular season in Japan, taking on Oakland and fighting to a 1-1 split in the opening days. OF Mike Carp was placed on the 15 day DL and Carlos Pegeuro was called to replace him. The M’s also released RHP Aaron Heilman

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners baseball blogger Danny Ferguson tells us to go from 30 down to 28, Carlos Peguero and Chance Ruffin were optioned to Tacoma, and Guillermo Quiroz was re-assigned to minor league camp. To get down to 25, the team deactivated Kevin Millwood, Hector Noesi, and Hisashi Iwakuma for the two games in Japan. The M’s front office and Eric Wedge could still change their minds before next week.

Danny Ferguson weighs in with his thoughts on the 2012 Starting Pitchers, Bullpen, and Closers for the Seattle Mariners. The M’s have a major overhaul coming to their starting rotation, and their bullpen has a strong core, but needs a few pieces to round it off. Felix Hernandez, Jason Vargas, Hisashi Iwakuma, Blake Bevan, and Brandon League are in for sure.

Brandon League adapted very well to the closing role. The Mariners have a lot of talent, but there are few differences in the styles and deliveries in these hurlers.
