After putting together a series of impressive performances without being rewarded with a victory, the Timbers edged the Whitecaps 2-1 in front of an outstanding crowd a JELD-WEN field. Portland took the lead in the 41st minute on a goal by Darlington Nagbe. Kenny Miller equaled for the Whitecaps. Franck Songo’o won it.

Not only did the Timbers, who find themselves with just 21 points this season and in last place in the Western Conference, have to play on the road yet again, but they would have to face a New York team that had put up stellar numbers throughout the year en route to being placed in 2nd in the Eastern Conference.

Despite surrendering two consecutive Toronto goals to Eric Hassli and Luis Silva, the Timbers bounced back late on a goal by Darlington Nagbe in the 82nd minute.

Instead of giving up five goals (including an own goal), the Timbers surrendered just one in front of yet another boisterous crowd at JELD-WEN field. While Frank Songo’o did not receive a red card by any means, he will be suspended.

Trying to come up with their first road win of the season, the Timbers could not muster decent attacks and threats on goal. Chivas, looking to distance itself from the bottom of the MLS ranks and ascend to playoff contention, scored their only goal in the 16th minute.
