The first pitching matchup features Mariners Blake Beaven (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs Jose Quintana. Danny points out he’s happy with Brendan Ryan’s plate discipline. So far Ryan has been impressive already tallying a handful of free passes. The White Sox have owned Seattle. This will be a tough series.

Justin Smoak

NWSB Seattle Mariners blogger Insider Steve weighs in today on the M’s offense. If you break it down even further, through 5 starts this season Felix Hernandez has a 2.75 ERA while Jason Vargas has a 3.83 ERA. If you combine the two, you have an ERA of 3.25 compared to the 7.55 ERA between Blake Beavan, Hector Noesi, and Kevin Millwood. The pitching not the bats is the reason for the 11-10 record.

Perfect game turns out to be the Mariners lucky day

Brendan Ryan

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners beat blogger Danny Ferguson tells us watching Brendan Ryan’s final at bat against Phil Humber and the Chicago White Sox last weekend personifies the embarrassment and frustration that has hit the M’s. It is curious that when the M’s left Seattle to face the central division champs that they wouldn’t just win, but they would humiliate the Detroit Tigers. Lucky?
