NWSB Writer Blair Thomas talks about Mike Riley, head coach of the Oregon State Beavers football program. Upon his first arrival in 1997-98, Riley went 8-14 in a pair of seasons, and went 5-6 in just his second season as head coach in 1998, before leaving to coach the San Diego Chargers in 1999. The significance of a five-win season cannot be lost in the defense of Riley because of the inability to get one in Corvallis during a quarter-century before his arrival.

At TE true freshman Caleb Smith was a prized recruit for the Beavers 2012 class. A redshirt freshman for 2012, Storm Woods has by far the best name in college football.
