Mariners recap: Series pitching vs. Toronto, Pittsburgh, Oakland

kumaBIG

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Brandon Choate gives us his weekly M’s pitching breakdown in the arms under the spotlight segment. By far the biggest surprise is Yoervis Medina. Medina pitched 3.1 innings this week in 3 appearances. He only gave up a single hit and struck out 3 in the process. There isn’t much we can say about Felix Hernandez that hasn’t been said yet.

Montero HR vs. Pittsburgh

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell tells us to him the best “MY oh MY” play of the sixth week of the year had to be the go-ahead homerun by Jesus Montero. The Mariners were battling hard in Pittsburgh and with Felix on the mound it was important to get that winning run across the plate. Jesus Montero got a first pitch fastball he liked, and hit it to the deepest part of the field. Homerun, Mariners win, Dave Sims gets all giggly, win-win-win situation for everyone.

Morse & Saunders

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Jeff Budke reports on the fourth game of the season versus the Oakland Athletics. Jeff points out the offensive production is hiding behind the power of Mike Morse, but it stinks like years past all the same. Power is often assimilated with the third spot in the lineup, which is absolutely something DH/OF Raul Ibanez possesses, but this is not a good place for him writes Jeff.

This just in! The Mariners Michael Morse hates to lose

Michael Morse 2

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Jeff Budke reports on the second game of the season versus the Oakland Athletics. Jeff points out that leadoff hits and two-out rallies were key in the 7-1 victory. Hisashi Iwakuma also had a great showing, along with Michael Saunders and Kyle Seager. If there’s anything to not like, it’s Yoenis Cespedes. But in this case, hate equals respect.

Felix gets win number 100 in Houston on Monday night

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Jeff Budke reports on the first game of the season versus the Oakland Athletics. The Headline: Felix Hernandez shines as the Mariners win their 7th straight opening day game. Jeff points out the bullpen, Charlie Furbush, Pryor, and Tom Wilhelmsen surrendered two walks in only 1.1 IP. That trend cannot continue, because hits will come too. Next game check out Michael Morse and his really strange batting stretch-thing.

The Seattle Mariners starting lineup on April 1st, 2013 will be…

Michael Morse, Seattle Mariners

Five days from start of the season Seattle Mariners Bench boss Eric Wedge has given enough clues for the lineup on Monday night…right? Spring Training has been nothing less than exciting for the Mariners, something that has not been said around Seattle for quite some time. With plenty of wins and a spring home run record, a breakout year [...]

Normally it will be a top 10 list, a la David Letterman style. Will the Mariners play spoiler with their remaining games as we are now out of the wild card hunt? Luis Jimenez gets his very first MLB start, and Felix Hernandez is on a cold streak.

Michael Saunders did all he could not to end up like this guy on his foul ball grab (photo bleacherreport.com)

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell tells us to him the best “MY oh MY” play of the twenty-third week of the year had to be the defensive gem by Michael Saunders grabing the ball out of the first row of seats. Yes, the ball was foul, but this play took another chance away from Coco Crisp, one of the most dangerous base runners in all of MLB. A true web gem.

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell weighs in with another M’s Week That Was. Intended to be a fun column, with lots of laughs and other good stuff. Normally it will be a top 10 list, a la David Letterman style, but since it was a short week for the M’s, this week will only be a top 5. Felix gets shafted at the ASG, Dustin Ackley is turning it around at the leadoff spot, and Safeco turns 13. Plus, will Jack Z have a card up his sleeve come deadline time?
