With the departures of Eric Hassli and Le Toux, and with Jay DeMerit not 100% rested from the mid-week All-Star match, the Whitecaps came out a little flat tonight at Rio Tinto. With a little more time together, Dane Richards and Darren Mattocks can be a lethal combination for the ‘Caps.

The return of Steve Zakuani against Brian Mullan has finally happened, and Alvaro Fernandez scored his first goal of the year. Sigi Schmid has to be happy with this result. Maybe the new lineup sans Fredy Montero is a sign of things to come.

United States international and Whitecaps FC captain Jay DeMerit was one of four defenders voted in to the match by fans. DeMerit has been huge in the Whitecaps play this season, only missing one game.

NWSB Insider and Seattle Sounders writer Clinton Bell brings us his Love Em & Hate Em recap from Wednesday nights match up with Real Salt Lake. Not a win, but we did earn a point in the 0-0 draw. This game got chippy early, and stayed that way for the entire match. A total of five yellow cards were handed out. Not a whole lot of great scoring chances, but Cordell Cato and Zach Scott both had excellent chances. The defense, led by Jhon Kennedy Hurtado kept the Sounders in this game and forced the draw.

This game got chippy early, and there was a stretch of about thirty minutes where the whistle was blown evey minute, but there were a ton of scoring chances. Two beautiful goals off the head of Eddie Johnson put the Sounders ahead.

Another game without a win, and it was a devastating loss for the Sounders. 1-4 away to Montreal. The lone bright spot was a late goal a man down to Eddie Johsnon. A red card issued to Jhon Kennedy Hurtado left the Sounders shy of eleven men, and keeper Bryan Meredith just couldn’t keep the ball out of the net tonight.
