Morse followed fellow outfielder Jason Bay for the second home run on the day for the Mariners. This one was the deciding factor in the much anticipated return of former Mariners Jason Vargas. The Marines won the game, and the series, their first series win of the year.

In that time they’ve lost just two series, while sweeping twice—including a series against the New York Yankees. It’s been a rough week for Texas Rangers pitchers. Undergoing surgery to repair his forearm, Colby Lewis (6-6, 3.43 ERA) will be out for the rest of the season. The M’s are on fire.

Seattle’s bullpen has been bad enough throughout the season so its fitting that with the score at 3-2 in the 9th Shawn Kelley goes ahead and gives LA that insurance run. Justin Smoak closed out today’s series going 2-4.

The M’s are 9-13 on the month, despite winning four of their eight series. I’ll be the first to defend the potentials of Michael Saunders and Alex Liddi, but players with a combined .311 OBP should not be batting one and two.
Mariners insider Danny Ferguson brings us his AL West Predictions today for the 2012 season. If Yu Darvish, CJ Wilson, or Albert Pujols pan out, Seattle and Oakland could be left in the dust again…especially if Seattle doesn’t land Prince Fielder. The M’s will likely end in 3rd place, but not be as easy a win as in years past.
