NWSB Insider and northwest sports fan Steve Lee tells us today about icons in the great northwest. Sports icons to be exact. IN version 1 today he talks about the British Columbia sports icons. Icon – a person or thing regarded as a symbol of a belief, nation, community, or cultural movement. Terry Fox, Trevor Linden, Rick Hansen, Larry Walker, Lui Passaglia, and Dominic Mobilio make Steve’s list. Plus Joe Sakic is an HM.
NWSB Blogger Dave B. checks in this time with a Northwest Athlete Profile of none other than Vancouver BC major leaguer Justin Morneau. He became the first Canadian to win the AL MVP award, and the second Canadian to win a major league MVP award (Larry Walker was the first, having won the NL MVP Award in 1997; Walker and Morneau were joined in 2010 by Joey Votto).
Another North West Athlete in the spotlight today. Retired MLB big league ball player Larry Walker from Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Matt Larkin points out Cooperstown may not give him the call but he may go down as one of the greatest hitters never to make it there.
