NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell weighs in with another M’s Week That Was. Intended to be a fun column, with lots of laughs and other good stuff. Normally it will be a top 10 list, a la David Letterman style. The return of Franklin Gutierrez was the highlight of the week. Newsworthy Optioned down to AAA Tacoma Rainiers were Blake Beavan and Alex Liddi. Also Seattle was swept by the San Diego Padres, but bounced back.

Northwest Player Profiles: Blake Hawksworth

Blake Hawksworth

Clinton Bell profiles one of the Northwests own, Blake Hawksworth of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Born in North Vancouver BC, but raised in Sammamish Washington, Hawksworth is a true northwest athlete. Playing his high school ball at Eastlake High School, and collegiate ball with Bellevue Community College, Hawksworth than went on to get drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Normally it will be a top 10 list, a la David Letterman style. No hitter vs LA, and two out of three in Anaheim against the Angels highlighted this past week. Ichiro is still playing good ball at the one spot, Felix Hernandez went down with injury, and Stephen Pryor wins his first game amidst the no hitter.

Six reasons Mariners no-no vs. the Dodgers was just sweet

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell weighs in with his 6 reasons to love the Seattle Mariners no hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kevin Millwood went 6 no hit innings again this season, leaving early with an injury, but the M’s bullpen led by Stephan Pryor and five others kept the no hit bid in tact. A little luck was in play as well, as the game winning hit was deflected off of Dodgers short stop Dee Gordon’s glove, allowing Ichiro to score from third.

LA Dodgers vs. Mariners: MLB baseball love ‘em & hate ‘em Game 1

Dodgers vs. Mariners

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Jonathan Irwin reports on the first M’s game of the interleague series versus the L.A. Dodgers. The Mariners needed just 1 run, and without it this magic night never happens. Kevin Millwood aside, I think this night really goes to the bullpen. Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League and Tom Wilhelmsen combined for 3 innings, 2 walks, 3 Ks and, of course, o hits.

Normally it will be a top 10 list, a la David Letterman style. 21 runs in a single game, not the norm for the Seattle Mariners. Justin Smoak named offensive player of the week, Stephen Pryor hits 100 on first MLB pitch, Ichiro goes deep twice in Chicago.

Seattle Mariners add bullpen arms Shawn Camp and Hong-Chih Kuo

Shawn Camp

Seattle Mariners blogger Danny Ferguson today reports that Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Radio in Seattle announced the M’s have signed relief pitcher Shawn Camp and Hong-Chih Kuo. To make room for them the Mariners have designated Chris Gimenez and Mike Wilson for assignment. These moves probably indicated that Chone Figgins is likely to be used as a utility player.

Northwest Coach Profiles: Jim Lefebvre

Jim Lefebvre Mariners

Another North West Coach in the spotlight today. Former Seattle Mariners skipper Jim Lefebvre. Danny Ferguson one of our Seattle sports area bloggers points out despite leading the team to its first winning season, by the end of 1991, the players that had sang his praises were quickly becoming Lefebvre atheists. After a blowup with Mariners GM Woody Woodward, Lefebvre was gone.
