Bubble Watch:  M’s Will Have 25 Man Roster Decisions To Make

The Bloomquist signing, is uninteresting and ill timed.

NWSB Writer and Seattle Mariners Insider Brian Scott looks at Seattle Mariners players who are the bubble of making the 25 man roster. Five starting pitchers, eight guys on the field, one DH, and seven guys in the bullpen. That’s 21 names on the roster right there. Throw in a backup catcher and that leaves room for just 3 platoons which I already mentioned. Can Bloomie squeeze in somehow, someplace? Maybe, if you eliminate one platoon but I just don’t see any other way.

Zunino, Baker, and Sucre A Rare Combination Behind The Plate

Mike and Jesus

NWSB Writer and Seattle Mariners Insider Brian Scott highlights the catching position for the 2015 Seattle Mariners– John Baker is a classic example of the wily, old, veteran catcher that teams sign to “mature kids”. Think Crash Davis although Baker has a lot more big league experience than the 21 days Crash once spent in the show not carrying his own bags, hitting white balls at batting practice, while admiring all the ladies with long legs and brains.

Seattle Mariners Spring Training Battles to Watch

Seattle Mariners v Cleveland Indians

NWSB writer and Seattle Mariners insider Brian Scott highlights the positional battles to watch during the Mariners 2015 Spring Training. Gutierrez is another interesting name to consider. We all know what “Death To Flying Things” can do out there in the outfield and he’s a pretty solid .270 kind of bat too. Of course to get those things out of Gutierrez you need one important thing to happen– You need him to not be on the DL.

Are the 2015 Seattle Mariners A Complete Team?

Zduriencik Ben Van Houten Mariners

NWSB Writer and Seattle Mariners Insider Brian Scott dives into the Seattle Mariners roster. Who will make the 25? Are the M’s a complete roster at this point? You have to have a backup catcher. It’s a given and Sucre is getting the nod. Bloomquist is healthy, under contract and is a wonderful bench player so I think his spot is safe. With the platoon situations in right field and at short you wind up with a four man bench.

Touch Decisions For McClendon Should M’s Make Postseason

Roenis Elias

Brian Scott our NWSB insider and Seattle Mariners blogger weighs in with some predictions for the M’s should they make the postseason in MLB. The need for a 5th starter just doesn’t happen in the post season. With Roenis Elias shutdown for the rest of the year anyway and Taijuan Walker much too green to pitch in the post season it really doesn’t make sense to move him to the pen.

Message from management: Perform, or else

Jesus Montero Seattle Mariners

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell tells us what Jesus Montero and Dustin Ackley will have to do to make it back up to the big league club. With a slew of roster moves the past week and a half, the two biggest names to be shuttled down I-5 were Montero and Ackley. Both seem to have lost the hitting feeling, and have been given the chance to go down to Tacoma to work on it. With Montero though it seems his catching days are over…

An Umpire’s view: The controversial double play call

Double Play...NOT

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today on the blown call heard around the world from Saturday night in the Mariners/Rangers ball game. He’s umpired for the White Rock South Surrey Baseball Association in BC for close to six years and while that doesn’t hold a candle to the MLB, he can do us a favor and shed a little light on what the umpire saw on this botched play and what his responsibilities were.

Jesus Swap: And roster moves the Mariners will and should make

Jesus Montero

NWSB Editor and Insider Chris Anderson talks about the moving of Jesus Montero to AAA Tacoma and other roster moves the Mariners could make. The Mariners are now 20-27, 10 games behind the Texas Rangers, and in need of some changes. And it looks like we’ll get some very soon, as moves have been rumored in the past day that could really shuffle the big league lineup. A Jesus swap is taking place. Jesus Montero down to Tacoma, Jesus Sucre up to Seattle.

Breaking down roster moves the Mariners will hate to make

Mike Zunino

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Danny Ferguson talks about the 40-man roster situation the Mariners will soon be faced with. While their 40-man is currently set, there still some room for players to either jump onto it or be cut from it. As such, the M’s are likely to let younger invitees get more opportunity in the minors before making any major changes to the roster. This really eliminates the reality of guys like Mike Zunino and Nick Franklin from seeing in major league time in 2013.
