NWSB insider and Mariner’s blogger Jon Irwin gives us his take on top prospect Mike Zunino, and his torrid start to the 2013 season. The minor league season is only a few games-young, but even so it’s impossible to ignore what Zunino is doing. Playing at Triple A Tacoma, Mike is currently hitting .500/.526/1.375 with three home runs in four games. While a call up could be coming sooner than later, such a move will be harder than it sounds.
NWSB Insider, Seattle Mariners blogger AND fantasy sports guru Brandon Choate brings us a list that will make fantasy baseball owners happy. With a revamped lineup, the Mariners have more than just 1 guy you count on when you draft him in your fantasy baseball league. Felix Hernandez is an obvious choice. New additions Michael Morse and Kendrys Morales should add some serious power along with Jesus Montero.
Five days from start of the season Seattle Mariners Bench boss Eric Wedge has given enough clues for the lineup on Monday night…right? Spring Training has been nothing less than exciting for the Mariners, something that has not been said around Seattle for quite some time. With plenty of wins and a spring home run record, a breakout year […]
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Jeff Budke talks about the trade that went down for the M’s today. On Monday, the Mariners signed OF Endy Chavez to a minor league deal, a competent to good defensive outfielder that could step in for emergencies if injuries occurred. Also, OF Eric Thames, who was sent to AAA, could step in as well. The writing is now on the wall for Casper Wells. It looks like Jason Bay will make the club too.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Jeff Budke talks about a young Arm in the Seattle M’s rotation battle this season. Brandon Maurer. His AA numbers in Jackson last season point to his potential, finishing with the most consistent stats on the team. AA: 137 IP, 1.315 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 and a 3.20 ERA. This year Maurer is rarely, if ever, mentioned alongside the “big 3” pitchers the Mariners have in AAA right now (Danny Hultzen, Taijuan Walker, and James Paxton). He’s more than ready.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell brings us his expectations of five Mariners players for the upcoming 2013 MLB season. Jesus Montero, Justin Smoak, Blake Beavan, Raul Ibanez, and Michael Morse are all going to have to step it up this season. Three of the five are fighting for survival in a M’s uniform, and the other two are going to have to prove they are worthy enough to don one once again. These five guys may make or break Jack Z as the GM in Seattle.
NWSB insider and Mariners blogger Jon Irwin gives his rundown of the Seattle Mariner’s defensive lineup in 2013. For a team like Seattle, defense is imperative. The team enters 2013 with an improved lineup, but pitching remains the biggest competitive advantage; meaning it needs a good defense. Headlining this year’s group of gloves is Brendan Ryan and Franklin Gutierrez.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Danny Ferguson talks about the 40-man roster situation the Mariners will soon be faced with. While their 40-man is currently set, there still some room for players to either jump onto it or be cut from it. As such, the M’s are likely to let younger invitees get more opportunity in the minors before making any major changes to the roster. This really eliminates the reality of guys like Mike Zunino and Nick Franklin from seeing in major league time in 2013.
NWSB Managing Editor and Seattle Mariners blogger “Q” tells us today that the Mariners released their 2013 commercials. Not only did they bring back Felix Hernandez to do another one with the classic hot sauce but now Brendan Ryan talks to a Buffalo, which in itself is just classic. The newest season features Dustin Ackley wearing his love for fans on his sleeve.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Jeff Budke talks about the pros and cons about Raul Ibanez coming back to Seattle. While he may be seen as a little arrogant as time and will surely take at-bats away from other players throughout the year, his upsides seem to outweigh his costs. Ibanez, contrary to what the Mariners thought was going to happen, has actually gained power in the past few years and will be a valuable piece in the Seattle lineup.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Danny Ferguson gives us the top five things he’s going to watch out for at Seattle Marines Spring Training camp this year. Danny want’s to see some consistency out of M’s 1B Justin Smoak, possibly last September was a showing of what was to come from the young slugger. Miguel Montero is another question mark for Danny, he is going to be asked to carry the weight behind the plate this year, and no one knows if he’s quite ready for that yet.
NWSB Editor and Insider Chris Anderson talks about the connections between Jesus Montero and Biogenesis, an anti-aging company being investigated by the MLB for supposedly providing high-profile athletes with banned substances. Though nothing has been proven at this time, Montero’s connection to the agency is troubling and could have big ramifications for the Mariners in 2013.
