The New York Yankees could help fill those needs if the Mariners are willing to part with Dustin Ackley.

A tale of woe: Seattle Mariners catchers

MARINERS

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Brian Scott weighs in today with a great post about the long standing suffering us fans have had to endure regarding the backstop in Seattle. After the departure of long time fan fave Dan Wilson, the Mariners haven’t been too lucky with catchers. That time is supposed to be in the past with two “future” catcher on the roster in Mike Zunino and Jesus Montero, but it is still uncertain if either of them will be with the big league club come April of next year.

Looking back: Lessons learned from the Mariners road trip

Smoak

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Jeff Budke gives you three players to pay attention to on the Mariners in the coming months. Justin Smoak, Erasmo Ramirez, and Brandon Maurer will all be interesting players to watch as the season comes to end. Not contending for the playoffs, these three will likely attempt to prove their worth for 2014 as Seattle makes the stretch run to the offseason.

MLB Analysis: Jack Z’s Mariners youth movement

Nick Franklin

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Jordin Ereth gives you his love ‘em and hate ‘em about the youth movement of the 2013 Seattle Mariners. After a few seasons of trying to figure out the organization, Jordin believes he has Seattle figured out. As the record falls, the draft pick rises. We then find ourselves with Mike Zunino, Nick Franklin and Danny Hultzen in our system. Okay Jacky boy, I can see your approach now. I don’t agree with it, but I can see it. Read on for his opinion.

Justin Smoak is returning from injury… and that’s a good thing

smoak.jpg

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners Blogger Jonas Hyde tells us why the return from the DL by Justin Smoak is a good thing for the Mariners. Gone are the days when Smoak was relied upon to carry this team offensively. Just look at the support he has had this season in Raul Ibanez, Kendrys Morales and Kyle Seager. Plus the demotions of Dustin Ackley and Jesus Montero have brought a couple more of the new wave up; Nick Franklin and Mike Zunino. And with the numbers of the latter, Smoak can focus more on playing 1B instead of trying to win every game with his bat.
