NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners Blogger Jeff Budke grades the players on a scale of 1-10 on their performance through the All-Star Game. Felix Hernandez earns the high score of the group, with Raul Ibanez, Kyle Seager and Hisashi Iwakuma behind him. Next comes Justin Smoak, Michael Saunders and Dustin Ackley. We didn’t even touch on how first baseman Kendrys Morales and OF Michael Morse are.
NWSB Editor and Insider Chris Anderson gives you his three players from the Tacoma Rainiers who he thinks will make an appearance for the Mariners before the end of the year. With plenty of young position players already playing for Seattle, Chris has three pitchers getting the call-up, with Danny Hultzen and James Paxton, two of “the big three”, making their debuts later this season.
NWSB Editor and Insider Chris Anderson previews the next five games for the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners have looked pretty good as of late. Though they dropped a slugfest to the Boston Red Sox last night in an 11-8 triumph by the visitors, the young guys who have been brought up are making significant contributions and really stepping into big shoes. Brad Miller has shown he can hit in the leadoff spot, Nick Franklin has continued to be stellar, and Mike Zunino is flashing the defensive prowess he needs to focus on right now.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Jeff Budke breaks down what happened against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night at Safeco Field. Though the M’s crushed the ball early in the game, Hisashi Iwakuma continued to look out-of-form, surrendering home runs to allow Boston back in the game. Blake Beavan didn’t help, either, as the Red Sox continued to tattoo the ball.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners Blogger Jonas Hyde gives us a preview of the M’s month of July. During the month the team has a few questions to answer. Can they can get trade value in Hisashi Iwakuma? Are they looking to keep Kendrys Morales and Michael Morse beyond this year? A 13-10 record is projected.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger gives you his love ‘em and hate ‘em from the third and last game of the series vs. the Athletics this week. Jeff says Kyle Seager is a stud. He goes on to say No one was/is more excited than him that the Mariners decided to draft his little brother Justin Seager this month. The more Seager’s the better in the M’s organization he thinks. Jeff also points out that this Nick Franklin kid can play, but asks how long will it last?
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners’ blogger Jordin Ereth gives you his love ‘em and hate ‘em about the youth movement of the 2013 Seattle Mariners. After a few seasons of trying to figure out the organization, Jordin believes he has Seattle figured out. As the record falls, the draft pick rises. We then find ourselves with Mike Zunino, Nick Franklin and Danny Hultzen in our system. Okay Jacky boy, I can see your approach now. I don’t agree with it, but I can see it. Read on for his opinion.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners Blogger Jonas Hyde asks the question we have all been wondering this season; who is the real ace of the Mariners staff? Jonas breaks down just about every category you can think of, trying to get the statistical answer. It seems to be a tie, but the answer Jonas gives for his answer just might sway even the most hardcore baseball fan. Felix Hernandez vs. Hisashi Iwakuma. Help decide. Leave a comment today.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners Blogger Jonas Hyde tells us why he doesn’t think a single one of us should write of the Mariners just yet. Even with an unstable rotation, and a lack of run scoring ability, these boys have some fight left in them. Plus, with all of the roster moves over the past month and a half, Jonas thinks the right players are finally in the right place. For starters Mike Zunino has replaced Jesus Montero, and will offer better defense and likely more at the plate.
NWSB Editor and Insider Chris Anderson preview Seattle’s next five matchups. Taking two series in a row, they will look to get back on the winning track tonight in game two of their four-game series against the Angels. Looking to heat up before the break and claim their third straight series win, taking home games against the Angels and Athletics would be huge in turning the season around. Happy Felix Day, a Felix Hernandez start is just around the corner.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Clinton Bell tells us to him the best “MY oh MY” play of the eleventh week of the year had to be Mike Zunino’s first career home run. Not only did it break the tie against Oakland, but the Mariners went on to win the game, and the next one as well. Missed in this excitement for me was the amazing debut for Henry Blanco too, who hit a grand slam on Saturday for the M’s.
NWSB Editor and Insider Chris Anderson talks about Hisashi Iwakuma’s and Felix Hernandez’s shot at the 2013 American League Cy Young Award. The deadly 1-2 punch at the top of Seattle’s rotation, both have been nearly flawless all year long and have baffled hitter after hitter. Quickly becoming a dangerous duo that no team wants to face, these two standouts will be two of the favorites to take home the 2013 AL Cy Young. Chris compares the two to their top competition, Clay Buchholz.
