General Manager Wally Buono decided to promote the defensive coordinator to coach the team. Benevides, a Toronto native won his first Grey Cup while on the staff of the Calgary Stampeders before helping the Lions capture the 2006 and 2011 championships.
Carolyn Smith our BC Lions blogger reports on the Lions head coach Wally Buono retiring from coaching this week following a BC Lions Grey Cup win. On contract till January of 2014, Buono will stay on as the team’s general manager and vice president of football operations, but will start the search for a coaching replacement immediately.
