NWSB insider and Seattle Seahawks blogger Brett Bivens brings us his take on another Pete Carroll & John Schneider move this week. They signed Antoine Winfield. He gives the Seahawks a player who they can count on in the secondary. Eventually he will hit a wall where he is no longer effective, hopefully it is not this season. Between Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor the secondary looks set.
NWSB insider and Seattle Seahawks blogger Brett Bivens brings us his take on free agency signing today that involved the Hawks losing DT/DE Jason Jones, and gaining LEO / DE Cliff Avril from Detroit. Avril will fit in the Seahawks system as their new Leo nicely. Over the last three seasons Cliff has amassed 29 sacks in 49 games, a rate of 0.59 sacks per game. With Chris Clemons injury, there has been a big question mark at the Leo position.
NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater brings us an update after the first day of the CFL Free Agency Period. With 20 moves on the first day, the BC Lions did their part to try and stay as active as they could be. Bringing in DE Julius Williams from Edmonton, and losing LB James Yurichuk to Toronto. GM Wally Buono was busy re-signing two players who were not in the free agent class, Paris Jackson, and Korey Banks. With plenty of time still remaing, Phil thinks that there will still be more singings in Leos camp soon.

Dan Hamhuis, Alex Edler, Kevin Bieksa, Keith Ballard, Chris Tanev, and Jason Garrison. Kevin Connauton has made strides in the minors.

Mitch thinks that although he doesn’t make a lot of money, Lapierre doesn’t want to stay a 4th line center for the rest of his career. We’ll know more in July of 2013.

Mitch thinks Higgins is the most underrated of the Canucks forwards. Though he’s not sure there is any urgency for Vancouver to extend Higgins before his deal is up.

The signing of Cory Schneider hasn’t really sped up the trade talks as one would have hoped. It’s been reported over the course of the off-season that the asking price for the all-star a goalie is too high.

He reports on the BIG news this week out of Vancouver that the Canucks have locked defenseman Jason Garrison via free agency from the Florida Panthers. Garrison has less than 3 full years of playing time leading to a fair inexperience factor, but he does bring size with a 6’ 2” frame that packs a solid 220 lbs.

Re-signing him now would be the perfect time in his career to do so. He’s already a fan favorite and will grab a starting spot with a deal like this. On the other hand, he will need to produce more and the Blazers are hoping to avoid a bidding war for Batum.
