NWSB Editor and Insider Chris Anderson previews the next five games for the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners have looked pretty good as of late. Though they dropped a slugfest to the Boston Red Sox last night in an 11-8 triumph by the visitors, the young guys who have been brought up are making significant contributions and really stepping into big shoes. Brad Miller has shown he can hit in the leadoff spot, Nick Franklin has continued to be stellar, and Mike Zunino is flashing the defensive prowess he needs to focus on right now.
NWSB Insider and Mariners blogger Jon Irwin reports on his predictions for the 2014 Mariners rotation. Seattle has a lot of great prospects in the pipeline, and their development is coming to a head. The 2014 rotation should look a lot different than the 2013 model. Outside of Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma, the rest of the rotation is bound for a youth-based overhaul. Even though we’re only one month into the season, 2013 already looks like another tough year for the Mariners.
NWSB insider and Mariners blogger Jeff Budke brings us his take on the biggest surprises of the Mariners minor league rosters to kick off 2013. Topping the list is the delegation of Mike Zunino to Triple A Tacoma, and the separation of Seattle’s “big 3″ pitching prospects. Jeremy Bonderman earns applause for his decision to stick things out in the minors. Keep your eye on Taijuan Walker, James Paxton, and Danny Hultzen in 2013 as well.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners Blogger Jeff Budke discusses his expectations for the team upon opening day. I see this team being one game better than the Oakland A’s, and getting the last wild card spot in a healthy American League. The M’s will receive a nice boost from playing the lowly Houston Astros. The Angels win the AL West, and the Rangers fall apart in the second half. We expect big things from two new acquisitions, Michael Morse and Kendrys Morales.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Jeff Budke brings us the positive and negative approaches for the upcoming MLB season with the Mariners’ pitching staff. With King Felix Hernandez leading the charge, mentions Jeff, Seattle’s youngsters could develop into a great staff in 2013. That will only be so, however, if Felix is able to step into a mentor role and guide a few promising young arms like Danny Hultzen and James Paxton.
New NWSB Insider & Seattle Mariners blogger Jeff Budke weighs in on the M’s 2013 options in the rotation. Jeff says the three immediate choices are Felix Hernandez, Jason Vargas and Hisashi Iwakuma. After that things get a little muddled, with anywhere from three-seven pitchers who could take up the last two spots.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Jonathan Irwin reports on the third game of the series versus the Oakland Athletics. The Headline: an eight inning collapse by the bullpen gives the A’s life, as they complete their sweep of the Mariners. Seattle hangs tough all day with strong starting pitching, but the bullpen blows it in the final frames of the game. Michael Saunders batting sixth. Miguel Olivo at DH and Jesus Montero at catcher. Bizarre lineup.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Danny Ferguson reports on the Mariners series matchup between the M’s vs. LA Angels in Anaheim for Game 147. The pitching matchup features Rangers Mariners RH Erasmo Ramirez (1-2, 3.28 ERA) vs. Angels RH Zack Greinke (5-2, 3.51). As Ramirez takes the hill on this important game you van bet that Eric Wedge will have his mental checklist out for next season’s starting rotation.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Danny Ferguson reports on the Mariners series matchup between the M’s vs. Toronto Blue Jays from Toronto in Game 142. The pitching matchup features Mariners RH Erasmo Ramirez (0-2, 3.69 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Brandon Morrow (8-5, 2.94). Erasmo Ramirez gets a chance to make a comeback to the starting rotation after losing his spot following an elbow injury in late June.
Mariners insider Danny Ferguson brings us the Weekly Seattle Mariners notebook. Franklin Gutierrez has finally made his comeback to the team and of course continues to live up to his name of “death to flying things”. The Mariners have added 9 men to their roster so far this September. Those players are…Carlos Peguero, Carlos Triunfel, Casper Wells, Erasmo Ramierez, Hector Noesi, Luis Jimenez, Mike Carp, Shawn Kelley and Alex Liddi.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Danny Ferguson weighs in today on the five M’s call-ups he’d like to see in September 2012 during Expanded MLB Rosters season. This September there are five players that Danny would like to see have the opportunity to log in some bit league playing time. Alex Liddi, Mike Zunino, Erasmo Ramirez, D.J. Mitchell, and Danny Hultzen lead the way.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Brandon Choate gives us his weekly M’s pitching breakdown in the arms under the spotlight segment. The Mariners pitching staff has really straightened up since the All Star break. The team went 7-3 this week with the King going to 3-0 since the break. If the pitching continues, all that is stopping this team from competing is consistent hitting. Kevin Millwood, Blake Beavan, and Felix Hernandez got wins this week.
