Mariners Prospects: Taking a look at the “other guys”

NWSB blogger and Mariners insider Jon Irwin brings us his look at Seattle’s remaining top prospects. Even with guys like Zuninio and Nick Franklin making it to the show, Seattle is still ripe with young prospects. Topping the list are James Paxton, D.J. Peterson, Stefan Romero, Taijuan Walker, and Danny Hultzen. Jon also points out overshadowed last year by other top arms in Seattle’s system, left-hander Tyler Pike is finally starting to get noticed.

With the No. 49 overall pick the M’s selected outfielder Austin Wilson from Stanford University. Wilson is a high-upside bat who could have been a first-round pick if not for an elbow injury suffered earlier in the year.

Peterson from the University of New Mexico. Peterson was arguably the purest college hitter in this year’s draft, with his bat drawing many similarities to that of Mike Zunino—Seattle’s first rounder from last year.
