Steve Lee profiles one of the Northwests own, Ryan Dempster of the Texas Rangers, but before that the Chicago Cubs. Born and raised in Schelt British Columbia. He’s the second winningest pitcher in Canadian Major League Baseball history, and Dempster is a prime example of the Maple Leaf talent that has recently found its way into the elite ranks of professional baseball,
Clinton Bell profiles one of the Northwests own, Blake Hawksworth of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Born in North Vancouver BC, but raised in Sammamish Washington, Hawksworth is a true northwest athlete. Playing his high school ball at Eastlake High School, and collegiate ball with Bellevue Community College, Hawksworth than went on to get drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Blair Thomas is back with another Northwest Athlete Profile, this time it’s Portland born Darwin Barney of the MLB’s Chicago Cubs. Darwin was counted out by most pundits but was MLB Rookie of the Month in his first month up. Flashback to 2006, Barney was a part of history as Oregon State went on an improbable run and became the first team in College World Series history to lose twice and still win the title.
Another North West Coach in the spotlight today. Former Seattle Mariners skipper Jim Lefebvre. After a blowup with Mariners GM Woody Woodward, Lefebvre was gone.
