BC Lions Wally Buono named CFL coach of the year

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Carolyn Smith tells us the defending Grey Cup champions have a new head coach, but last years man Wally Buono was awarded the 2011/12 CFL Coach of the Year this week. Bringing his team back from a 0-5 start to ultimately beat the Bombers 34-23 on home turf couldn’t have been a better way to end a fulfilling coaching career.

It’s been 17 years since the B.C. Lions won the Grey Cup at BC Place, but on Thursday night two of the the teams best players were honored by Football Reporters of Canada and CFL head coaches in winning some 2011 CFL Awards. Congrats to Travis Lulay and Paul McCallum.
