Colten Teubert started his career with the Regina Pats of the WHL before helping lift Team Canada to Gold and Silver performances in the under-18 Championships. He was eventually chosen by the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL Draft, but was sent to the minors before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers.

Colton Gillies has hockey in his blood after his uncle Clark Gillies made the family proud by being voted into the NHL Hall of Fame. Gillies started off on the inept Saskatoon Blades but showed enough promise for the Minnesota Wild to call him in. Since then, he has joined the Columbus Blue Jackets in Ohio.

It all started after he was passed up in the WHL Bantam Draft, but that motivated him even more to join the Coquitlam Express via the Junior B Delta Ice Hawks. From there, he rose to the level he is at today…the NHL.

This was only before being named MVP of the Frozen Four Tournament and going on to play in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets. He was eventually chosen by the Calgary Flames 14th overall in the NHL Draft and now calls Denver, Colorado home with the Avalanche of the NHL.

NWSB insider Dave B brings us another Northwest Athlete Profile, following Zach Hamill. Hamill quickly caught on with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL where he caught fire. After representing his country in many competitions for Team Canada, he was selected 8th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. He played for the minor league team affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

B.C. Lions coach Wally Buono steps down after Grey Cup win

Carolyn Smith our BC Lions blogger reports on the Lions head coach Wally Buono retiring from coaching this week following a BC Lions Grey Cup win. On contract till January of 2014, Buono will stay on as the team’s general manager and vice president of football operations, but will start the search for a coaching replacement immediately.
