Four batters and one wild pitch later and the Mariners were just 1 run down with a man on and Jesus Montero at the plate. Then a hit, or a bunt or…UGH.

The Mariners needed just 1 run, and without it this magic night never happens. Kevin Millwood aside, I think this night really goes to the bullpen. Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League and Tom Wilhelmsen combined for 3 innings, 2 walks, 3 Ks and, of course, o hits.

Starter Hector Noesi had a rough night, giving up 6 earned runs on 5 walks and 4 hits. To name Seattle 2012 MVP today, the name would be Kyle Seager. The 24-year old is enjoying a fantastic breakout season, leading the Mariner’s in RBI with 32. Thank goodness Ichiro Suzuki is back?!

The Mariners starter was lackluster, needing 106 pitches to get through 5.2 innings. Brandon League has been putting his horrible month behind him. The Mariners made a great pick in the draft last night, taking catcher Mike Zunino.

We’re not sure what’s wrong with Felix Hernandez, but it’s time he starts working the kinks out. The King had a tough start tonight, needing 85 pitches to get through just 5 innings. Eric Wedge said that Brandon League was no longer the closer. He came in in the sixth.

This was one of the craziest nights of baseball in recent Mariners memory. Kyle Seager was 4-6 on the night with 4 runs and 2 RBI. Jesus Montero had an amazing night, going 3-4. Justin Smoak kept his hot streak rolling, as he had 3 hits, 1 walk, 6 RBI and 2 home runs. The M’s won 21-8.

Seattle’s bullpen has been bad enough throughout the season so its fitting that with the score at 3-2 in the 9th Shawn Kelley goes ahead and gives LA that insurance run. Justin Smoak closed out today’s series going 2-4.

The M’s are 9-13 on the month, despite winning four of their eight series. I’ll be the first to defend the potentials of Michael Saunders and Alex Liddi, but players with a combined .311 OBP should not be batting one and two.

Without Tom Wilhemsen, this win happens and is far less stressful. What a crazy last game of the series. Kevin Millwood has had a very up and down season. But the last two games he’s been GREAT.

Nice three game set. Perhaps more exciting than the sweep is that the Mariners finally head home to Seattle. Monday kicks off a 7-game home stand against the Angels and Rangers.

Steve Delabar started things off with a blown save in the 8th. After Seattle finally recaptured the lead in the 11th, they handed the ball over to closer Brandon League. He was horrible. Ichiro Suzuki has just 5 RBI in May. Not good from the #3 spot.

The loss puts them at 1-3 to start the trip. The Mariners had 8 hits tonight, but only 1 — a Justin Smoak double — was for extra bases. Starter Jason Vargas pitched 6 innings.
