BC Lions Roster Update: Moving Day in the den

Mike Reilly

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater updates us today on the Leo’s roster after the Mike Reilly trade today made by Wally Buono. The mastermind GM behind the Lions franchise. Phil says the Leo’s must lock up Shawn Gore. He is the next real deal. A Mr. Everything for the Lions Offense as he is the possession receiver, a threat at every range and can be lined up inside or flexed out wide.

Five things I hate about the Lions’ Geroy Simon trade

Geroy Simon Roughriders

New NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Bryan McFarlane gives us his five biggest reasons why he hates the Geroy Simon trade to the Roughriders. First off, green is clearly not his favorite colour, and Riders green is even worse. Green is the colour of envy, not the colour suitable for Superman. Plus the fact that the Lions got absolutely no value in the trade in return. The leagues best WR of all time gets traded for nothing in return is enough to make anybody’s blood boil.

Superman has left the building…BC thanks you for the memories Geroy Simon!

Geroy Simon

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater reacts today to possibly the biggest CFL trade in the history of the league. Geroy Simon is OUT of Vancouver. Traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Phil wishes to express his gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Simon. Time will tell how this trade will play out in the end but for the circumstances involved Phil believes GM Wally Buono played this masterfully.

Five Positions that the BC Lions need to address

Question marks surround the future of Geroy Simon

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger points out the Leo’s had a tremendously successful regular season and points out most would think they don’t need to re-tool or re-load. Now that Arland Bruce is gone, and GeRoy Simon has some questions to answer we know Nick Moore, Courtenay Taylor and Ernest Jackson will be the future. Also Angus Reid will eventually retire. Maybe not in 2013 but sometime soon, and the Lions have failed to address his replacement…

CFL: Report card time: BC Lions defence

Khalif Mitchell BC Lions

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil Slater is here to give us his rendition of the BC Lions deffensive unit report cards. The bartender always knows best right? Phil says that the linebackers were the jewels of the Lions D this past year. The D line could have had an A grade as well if not for a certain someone going off at the mouth on his Twitter account.

CFL: Report card time: BC Lions offence

Andrew Harris BC Lions

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil Slater is here to give us his rendition of the BC Lions offensive unit report cards. The QB’s of the Lions were definitely the high point for this roster in 2012, leading the team to a game within reaching the Grey Cup in consecutive seasons. The RB position also scored an A in Phil’s eyes. Clearly the best offensive weapon for BC is Andrew Harris.

The BC Lions Geroy Simon is “King of the Dome”

Geroy Simon

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Steve Lee points out it that it may not have been the best of years for Lions WR Geroy Simon, but would letting the veteran go be the right choice at this moment in time? Simon still has a lot to offer in the mentoring department, and could show a lot to the young receiving corps that will be the future of the Lions.

CFL: BC Lions 2012 Wrap-up

Coach Mike Benevides

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil Slater is here to give us his rendition of the BC Lions coaching staff report cards. Phil was quite generous actually, giving out a few A’s to the Leo’s coach’s. The biggest and brightest A of them all though goes to head coach Mike Benevides for the job he did with the Lions all season long. If not for two games against Calgary, the Lions could’ve been the team hoisting the Cup in 2012.

BC Lions Coach Mike Benevides – A season in reflection

Mike Benevides

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Steve Lee points out it has been nearly a week since the B.C. Lions were knocked out of contention for the 100th Grey Cup. Enough time has passed in order to fairly grade the effort of the Lions and their first year coach Mike Benevides. After four years as an assistant coach, he had to learn what it was like to take on 100% of the responsibility. Now he knows. Now he can plan better. Still, tough loss.

Flashback: Lions overrun by Calgary in CFL Western Conference final

Stampeders vs. Lions

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger points out what happened last Sunday in the Calgary Stampeders vs. BC Lions Western Final. He says the Stamps played arguably their finest 60 minutes of defensive football this year in 34-29 win Sunday at BC Place Stadium to earn a trip to Toronto for Sunday’s Grey Cup.

2012 Western Conference Final / CFL Keys: Calgary Stampeders vs. BC Lions Preview

Andrew Harris

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil The Bartender Slater weighs in with his Western Conference Final preview for the Calgary Stampeders vs. BC Lions from BC Place in Vancouver. The BC Offense had some scoring struggles coming down the home-stretch but with a week off and wounds healed, Geroy Simon, Arland Bruce III, and Marco Iannuzzi will all dress for this weekend’s tilt. Andrew Harris and Travis Lulay will pace the team.

Attitude adjustment in Vancouver as Lions showed their teeth vs. Riders

Roughriders vs. Lions Recap

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil The Bartender Slater weighs in with his Week 19 CFL recap for the Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. BC Lions from BC Place in Vancouver. Phil says the one element lacking with the Lions all season has been the killer instinct required by the offense to score touchdowns. It was still a good game. We saw the reigning MOP, QB Travis Lulay return to the field, and Adam Bighill was great…again.
