What I’m watching vs Hamilton today

Emmanuel Arcenaux, should be a virtual lock to be on the roster

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today with a post about what he’s watching on the field tonight in the BC vs. Hamilton matchup. If both offences come out to play, we could be in for a real shootout at BC Place tonight. There should be lots of scoring, lots of great plays and plenty of fireworks. Despite his inefficiency over the last few games, Travis Lulay should be licking his chops to face these guys. Nice to see Tim Brown back too.

B.C. Lions Vs. Montreal Alouettes: What went wrong?

Arland Bruce

NWSB Insider and B.C. Lions’ blogger Bryan McFarlane recaps the Lions’ last contest against the Alouettes. Bryan asks what went wrong? The Lions’ defense is one of the league’s stingiest, particularly in the secondary, and although the unit forced a boatload of turnovers, the yards just continued to rack up against them. B.C. allowed an uncharacteristic 464 yards of offense on Thursday, far higher than their typical numbers. Ex-Lion Arland Bruce III had himself a great game.

What I’m watching vs Calgary tonight

BC vs. Winnipeg Love em & Hate em

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today with a post about what he’s watching on the field tonight in the BC vs. Calgary matchup. Going into this season, if you told him the Lions would be last in the league in sacks in Week 8, Andrew would have said you were crazy. Sadly, you’re not crazy. The biggest reason for this seems to be moving Keron Williams. Special Teams. Whether it’s blocking or poor decision-making by Tim Brown, something needs to change soon.

Who will the Lions turn to in that must-win moment?

Bet on BC Lions Football

NWSB Insider Ben Lypka focuses on the idea that Travis Lulay is a great quarterback and seems like a nice guy, but that could be the problem. He’s never had a receiver he’s really connected with. Who will step up? Emmanuel Arceneaux? Nick Moore? Courtney Taylor? Marco Iannuzzi and Shawn Gore? This team needs a No. 1 target.

You’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again – Dave B predicts the Lions lose their second straight game Thursday night. Andrew Harris has only three rushes for 20 yards, that has to change for BC to win.

Week 1 Flashback: Lions vs. Stamps what went wrong?

jon-cornish-calgary-stampeders.jpg

NWSB Insider and BC Lions’ blogger Bryan McFarlane addresses the pros and cons from the BC Lions’ 1st regular season game against the Calgary Stampeders. Jon Cornish ran at, through, around and over the Lions en route to 172 yards on the day for the Stamps. One thing is for sure, the defense needs to tighten up if the Lions want to get on the winning side of a football game. Sure the Stampeders are the reigning Western Division champs, but…

BC Lions Moments In Time: Remembering Norm Fieldgate

Norm Fieldgate

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater rewinds the clock today in another Moments in time piece about the BC Lions. Phil points out Adam Bighill, Solomon Elimimian and Anton McKenzie lead a group of formidable LB’s for our beloved orange squad but that maybe the best ‘Backer the Leo’s ever had was also the first one they ever had: Norm Fieldgate.

BC Lions weigh pros and cons of signing Emmanuel Arcenaux

Emmanuel Arcenaux

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today on the reported possible signing by the Leo’s of former Vikings WR Emmanuel Arcenaux. The chase to land the former Lions wideout began at the start of the week when Arceneaux told CKWX he has seen the light and will put his NFL pursuits on hold. Andrew says personally he’d go for it. The opportunity to get a young, bonafide CFL receiver of Arcenaux’s calibre doesn’t come around often.

The 2013 pre-season starts for the BC Lions

Travis Lulay BC Lions QB

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater tells us that the Leo’s preseason is in full effect. Coach Benevides has the offense working extra hard this spring, with Travis Lulay and the WR corps getting extra reps with the new offense. Gone is Geroy Simon, but who needs him anyways (trader). But the Bartender wants to know who will step up? Who will be the next go to guy for the Lions?

BC Lions GM and coaching staff on the prowl for depth players

Wally Buono

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Phil “The Bartender” Slater tells us with all the off season activity in the CFL the most impactful transaction probably happened right here in BC with trade with Edmonton, where the BC Lions lost their valuable backup QB Mike Reilly. Buono and Coach Mike Benevides have been left searching for a high-quality number two option behind CFL All Star Travis Lulay.

BC Lions Coach Mike Benevides – A season in reflection

Mike Benevides

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Steve Lee points out it has been nearly a week since the B.C. Lions were knocked out of contention for the 100th Grey Cup. Enough time has passed in order to fairly grade the effort of the Lions and their first year coach Mike Benevides. After four years as an assistant coach, he had to learn what it was like to take on 100% of the responsibility. Now he knows. Now he can plan better. Still, tough loss.
