NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Alex McPhee is back again, this time taking a look at the top 13 Seattle Mariners players of all time. The top of this list is a no-brainer, as are a lot of the other ones, but the one that may surprise many of you could be the first player on this list. Though Alex has a great point for including him, his stat line. Read this piece immediately, and argue your points for why your favorite Mariners isn’t included in the comments below.
NWSB Insider and Seattle sports blogger Brandon Choate brings us his top 5 Randy Johnson and Dan Wilson moments in time in a Seattle Mariners uniform. With these 2 M’s legends being inducted in the Mariners Hall of Fame today, we are reminded of an era of the happiest time in Seattle for baseball fans. Largely in part because of these 2 guys.
NWSB Insider and Northwest sports blogger Steve Lee tells us another story in our Moments in time series about the legendary Seattle Mariners radio voice Dave Niehaus. Born February 19, 1935 in Princeton, Indiana. Niehaus was massively popular in Seattle, twice being named Washington Sportscaster of the Year. Despite the M’s struggles to qualify for the post season, neither Niehaus or the fans of his broadcasts waviered.
NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners baseball blogger Danny Ferguson tells us the nine players that make up his all time starting team in the next chapter of our Moments In Time series on Northwest sports teams. Some famous names from the M’s past make the list. Including Ichiro Suzuki, Ken Griffey Jr., Jay Buhner, Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, Harold Reynolds, Alvin Davis, Dan Wilson and more.
NWSB insider Danny Ferguson tells us If the Mariners ever need to dip into the PAST to grab an all-star team, he would choose these 5 guys. Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, Alvin Davis, and Jay Buhner. He wishes some of them were still a part of the team, in their prime – ready to play. So to do the Seattle Mariners of 2012.
Another North West Coach in the spotlight today. Former Seattle Mariners skipper Jim Lefebvre. Danny Ferguson one of our Seattle sports area bloggers points out despite leading the team to its first winning season, by the end of 1991, the players that had sang his praises were quickly becoming Lefebvre atheists. After a blowup with Mariners GM Woody Woodward, Lefebvre was gone.
Our Seattle Mariners blogger Danny Ferguson likes the M’s bringing in Japanese pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma. He points out his origin and experience in Japan will give him an edge for the first half of the season as the opposing team scouts and players will have little information to go off of. Iwakuma signed a 1.5 Million dollar contract with the Mariners. It could be worse.
NWSB Managing editor “Q” tells us Randy Johnson and Dan Wilson two legendary Seattle Mariners will be inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame on July 28 at Safeco Field, before a game against the Kansas City Royals. Randy and Dan will become the fifth and sixth major leaguers in the Mariners Hall of Fame. Already in are Alvin Davis (inducted in 1997), Dave Niehaus (2000), Jay Buhner (2004) and Edgar Martinez (2007).
Great Seattle Mariners analysis on the configurations of the fences at Safeco Field in Seattle. Remember Alvin Davis, and Ken Griffey Jr.? It may be better to leave the fences where they are, invest the money into good pitching and solid defense to invest in Mike Carp or Dustin Ackley while in prime and before being courted by the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees.
